Online Workshops: What started out four years ago as a way for Boot-Fitters to get together during Covid, has turned out to be a convenient and valuable learning tool for both the new and experienced. These virtual (two day 8-11am) workshops are a great way to kick off your season and are a must if you haven't trained with us before.

In-Person Workshops: offer a very hands-on experience covering all aspects of boot-fitting. Group size is limited allowing for a low attendee to instructor ratio.

Program Overview:

Our workshops are taught by our staff of industry veterans featuring Brent Amsbury (Board Certified Pedorthist, Park City Ski Boot, Park City, UT), Peter Englert (Board Certified Pedorthist, BootDoc/Hotronic and Alpine Options, Warren, VT), Marc-Andre Jerome (BootDoc/Hotronic) and Todd Carroll (BootDoc/Hotronic and former Rossignol Eastern Competition Coordinator) as well as guest lectures from local experts like Dana Hamm (Dan Bailey's Outdoor Co., Livingston, MT), RB Bathje (Real Balance 6, Gunnison, CO) and others.

Online or in-person, our staff will teach tricks of the trade for boot selection, shell adjustment, and the casting & finishing of custom footbeds. Special topics will also include altering touring boots, alignment, and race boot fitting. For attendees of an in-person workshop, each attendee will leave with a custom insole that is built during one of many hands-on breakout sessions.

On-Line Workshops:

We utilize the Zoom platform to cover topics best delivered in a classroom setting. With plenty of time for Q & A, our two 3-hour sessions will cover the foundational knowledge needed for professional boot-fitting. You will learn everything including foot analysis, boot selection, plastic science, and athletic anatomy from our seasoned instructors with the comfort and convenience of your home or shop. These online workshops not only provide a firm set of skills to get new hires into the game, but also a great review of the fundamentals for the more Advanced Ski Boot-Fitters.

At the end of these virtual sessions, attendees should be able to confidently take foot measurements, narrow down boot options to 2 -3 pairs and determine the proper ski boot to sell or rent based on the individual customer’s unique criteria and anatomical traits. In addition, they should gain a solid knowledge of:

  • The philosophy of boot fitting
  • Anatomy and Biomechanics and how it relates to proper boot fitting
  • How to solve Common boot fitting issues
  • The concepts of punching and stretching ski boots
  • The benefits of insoles – whether it be custom or trim to fit
  • What to look for in a well-balanced custom insole

In-Person Workshops:

With limited group size, every attendee will get individual attention from our experienced BOOTDOC instructors. New Attendees are required to complete our Online Workshop as a prerequisite. Learn by doing with plenty of feedback from our instructors and your peers as we share our tricks and techniques to help you boost your boot fitting game. With many attendees returning year after year, we really strive to keep things fresh and moving forward.

Upon completion of a 2 Day Advanced workshop Less Experienced Ski Boot-Fitters should feel much more confident with proper ski boot sizing and selection, modification, and alignment. For Advanced Ski Boot-Fitters, this is a great opportunity to network, learn a few new tricks, and really dial in your custom insoles. Topics covered will include:

  • Overview of Ski Boots, what’s new and general fit parameters
  • Measurements, sizing, and foot analysis
  • Managing customer expectations
  • How to identify potential boot-fitting issues
  • Proper ski boot selection
  • Fitting/Re-fitting customer’s ski boots
  • Boot shell and liner modifications
  • Custom Insoles (Intro or Advanced)
  • Proper alignment, fore-aft and lateral
  • Foot-warmer installation
